The Gateway Academy Middle School has many opportunities for students to develop their creativity in a nurturing and formative environment.
VOCAL MUSIC
All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students have the option of taking vocal music. They perform in two concerts a year, one at Christmas time and one in the spring, usually in May.
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Gateway Academy has a beginning band program in the 6th grade. All 6th grade students have the option of taking band as opposed to vocal music. They perform in two concerts a year. Gateway Academy also has an intermediate level band the 7th and 8th grade students can join. The only prerequisite is that they have to have played a band instrument either at Gateway, another school or privately.

DRAMA
Drama club is an extra-curricular activity in which 6th, 7th and 8th grade students can come together and learn about many aspects of the theatre. This includes, acting, technical, front of house and theatre etiquette.
Gateway Academy produces two major dramatic productions a year; a fall play which involves only middle school and high school students and a spring musical which involves the whole school. Musicals that have been produced in the past include Annie, Peter Pan, Secret Garden, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and in April 2008 will be the Wizard of Oz.
VISUAL ARTS
Every student in grades 6 - 8 receives art instruction in the visual arts every week. During that time, students are instructed in the principles of design by creating various hands-on projects. They are taught the fundamental art elements of line, shape, color, form, and texture through projects in the processes of drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery, sculpture, weaving, and craft. Often, students are encouraged to enter public displays and contests.
