Welcome to Gateway Academy Pre-K through 8th grade athletics!

Gateway Academy’s athletic program functions as an integral part of the total curriculum. Youth sports programs give each individual the opportunity to achieve great heights in his or her athletic development. Young people learn a great deal from participation in athletics. Athletic participation also helps our students develop healthy self-concepts and bodies while fostering school spirit and Christian values. We are dedicated to providing a fun, safe and family oriented environment for our children to learn to play organized sports.   Games and practices are scheduled as much as possible not to interfere with other school related events.  However, occasionally scheduling conflicts do occur.  As parents and coaches it is up to you to establish priorities for your children.  I hope this web site will answer all the questions you may have regarding this program.  Feel free to browse the web site.  If after doing so you have questions, please contact Kathy Leible or Steve Stoll for additional assistance.  That’s for your interest and may God bless you!

Gateway Academy’s Athletics Prayer
Heavenly Father,

We ask your guidance in this competition.
May we always remember that our opponent is never an enemy.
The victory is in HOW we play and not in winning.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.  AMEN.

Fees
Team Sport Registration Fee: $110.00 per player
Individual Sport Registration Fee:  see specific sport

Uniforms
The athletic department will issue all uniforms to the coach.  It is the responsibility of the coach to distribute to each member of the team.  The coach will be responsible for the collection of uniforms.  Shorts, socks and other gear necessary to play a particular sport are the responsibility of the participant.  There is a $50 deposit (check only) that is required as part of the registration fee which will be returned to participant once uniform is returned at the end of the season.  Participants have one month after the conclusion of the season to return uniform, otherwise, check will be deposited.

Participation
Every individual who is enrolled in Gateway Academy (K – 8) will be given the opportunity to participate in WCCYC Soccer as long as there are enough players on a team to play and there is a coach available to coach the team.

Individuals from local parishes who wish to participate on Gateway Academy teams may do so if there is roster availability and an approval by the local parish and WCCYC soccer committee is granted.

WCCYC does stipulate that all individuals play in each contest that he or she attends.  However, it is up to you, the coach, to decide when and how much each individual plays.  This may be determined by the game situation(s) and strategy needed to be successful.
The goal of participation is to provide an opportunity for each player to be in a successful situation.

5th graders and older must have a CYC card to play.

Team Formation
WCCYC’s philosophy in forming teams is to provide each participant with the highest quality of experience possible when participating in a sponsored CYC activity.  There are only two rules CYC enforces when forming rosters.  The only rules which cannot be violated are no tryouts (stacking teams) and no cuts can be made when forming teams.  However, teams can be formed by any method that in the institution’s mind follows the general philosophy of CYC.  CYC has designated the Athletic Director as the individual responsible for forming teams for Gateway Academy.  Teams can and will be reformed on a yearly basis based on skill, commitment or any other factor which allows a team and its participants a higher quality of experience.

Maximum number of players on each team.  All individuals who sign up during the sign up time will be placed on a team.  However, those individuals who do not sign up during the sign up period of time are not guaranteed a spot. In this case it is up the athletic director, in coordination with the K-8th Grade Sports Coordinators and coach of the team in question, to determine size of roster.

Parent Participation
All parents are encouraged to volunteer as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager, practice/game helper or party organizer.  If your team already has a head coach please ask the coach what you can do to help the team.  Each volunteer coach and parent must fulfill their Archdiocese obligation by being compliant with the following guidelines; otherwise they will not be allowed to help on the team:
1. Attend Protecting God’s Children Workshop.
2. Fill out the Background Check form.
3. Turn in a copy of their Social Security Card for the Background Check.
4. Head Coaches must take "Coaching to Make a Positive Difference" class.
5. Assistant Coaches must obtain a CYC ID card.
