Mission PDF Print

To provide the highest quality Catholic education and foster integrally formed Christian leaders.  This mission is fulfilled as Gateway Academy students graduate as strong Christian leaders who are convinced of the truth and are prepared and committed to foster a society where Christian values are taught, embraced and put into practice.  This mission is pursued through the development of the whole person, (integral formation), encompassing the commitment to teach, to educate, and to form.

Sports are an important part of the education, teaching and formation of students at Gateway Academy Lower School.  They are a means to form the will, channel the passions, exercise team work, and respect and obey the authority reflected in the coaches and game rules.  It provides the opportunity to exercise Christian virtues, especially obedience, patience, fortitude, humility, and human virtues such as punctuality, order, discipline, honesty and self denial.

Semper Atius is important to sports also, Gateway Academy Pre-K-8th teams should strive to be the best as individuals and as teams as well to gain victories in the score and in the exercise of Christian and human virtues.  For many young people gifted with athletic talents and leadership, sports are an excellent way to grow in personal security, diligence and motivation in fulfilling their duties at home and school.

The emphasis of sports is on character formation, participation, learning the rules of the game and basic skills of the game.  The K-8th Sports Program is also a tool to develop the understanding of personal scheduling and commitment to others who depend on each team member to have the highest quality experience.
